Frequently Asked Questions

This tour starts at 8am at our Haka accommodation - (location may vary - we'll confirm the location in your final tour letter 3-4 weeks before your tour.)

On the final day, we take the world famous Tranz Alpine Express Train from Greymouth to Christchurch. This train journey is rated one of the top 10 train journeys in the world as the scenery is simply spectacular! This means the tour ends at Christchurch Railway Station at 6:30pm.

There are shuttle buses that take you into the city centre for around $5 and for all of you staying at Haka Lodge after your tour, a group taxi will cost just a few dollars each. There is a busy taxi stand directly outside the train station.

A high number of people stay at Haka Lodge the night the tour ends but if you are needing to depart immediately, we suggest booking flights for anytime later than 9pm.

Yes. Around 70% of guests are solo so you can absolutely join this, or any other tours.

There isn't a single supplement, however if you are wishing to upgrade your tour to a private room then additional charges will apply.

Yes - but The Operator cannot guarantee availability, especially in peak times, so if there is something that is definitely on your bucket list we suggest you pre-book it as part of your tour.

Yes –  all cafes and restaurants in New Zealand offer these options. If you can’t see any on the menu, just ask, as most places will happily prepare something for you.

Haka Tours is 100% Kiwi therefore your guide will be English speaking. There are generally a number of nationalities on tour meaning the guides are used to tour members not being 100% fluent in English.

Some basic English helps so you can understand the guide’s commentary and instructions.

Did you know when you book with us you get up to 10% CASHBACK to use on your next tour? We won’t be beaten on price! Let us know if you find this tour cheaper and we will beat it!

Everyone has their own favourites, but in general, these are the most popular:

  • Milford Sound Day Trip
  • Skydiving – Wanaka
  • Nevis Bungy – Queenstown
  • Scenic Flight – Lake Tekapo
  • Heli-Hike – Franz Josef

Your guide will supply a continental breakfast each morning of your tour. This will consist of cereal, toast, tea, coffee and juice.

Lunches and dinners are at your own expense. Your guide will know the best places in each town and city depending on your budget and what you are after, and they will point these out on the way into each location.

Some nights the tour group may choose to cook a meal together. You will head to a supermarket to get everything and then cook as a group at the hostel. Whoever joins in splits the cost, and it usually works out to be about $15 NZD per person. A fun, social and cheap dinner. Likewise the tour group and guide often head out to a local pub for a beer and a meal. Meals can range from $25 upwards. In summer it’s not uncommon to have a BBQ with a few drinks.

You score up to 10% of your purchase value emailed to you as a one time code to use on your next adventure!
