Phillip Island is a great destination no matter when you choose to visit, but for the best wildlife sightings and outdoor activities, we&rsquo;d recommend visiting between September and May. During this time of year, the weather is warm, the days are longer, and the island&rsquo;s curious creatures come out to play!

Yes! Phillip Island is connected to the mainland with a bridge and is easily navigable by car. <a href="https://www.backpackerdeals.com/cars-rental" target="_blank">Hiring a car</a> or driving your own vehicle allows you to explore the island at your own pace. 
&nbsp;

To fully experience Phillip Island, we recommend spending at least two to three days here. This will give you enough time to enjoy the island&rsquo;s main attractions and soak up its incredible natural beauty. 
&nbsp;

You might be able to see some of Phillip Island&rsquo;s little penguins during the day at The Nobbies boardwalk, but it&rsquo;s not as enchanting as the official penguin parade. While the odd penguin may hang around near the boardwalk during the day, thousands of penguins waddle onto Phillip Island&rsquo;s Summerland Peninsula every night.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Your chances of seeing this natural wonder for free is very slim, though, as the peninsula is closed off at night to protect the penguins. As a result, the only way to see cute little creatures waddle ashore at nighttime is from the penguin parade&rsquo;s special viewing platform.
